There is a promise waiting to be discovered all around us. Even a vacant lot is a blank canvas awaiting transformation into something beautiful and functional – a park that can ignite a better quality of life for people living and working in a distressed neighborhood.
Founded by Boise® in 2011, Project UP™ helps transform undeveloped or abandoned urban spaces into community parks for relaxation, reflection, and rejuvenation. Funded through sales of Boise® ASPEN® Recycled Paper, Project UP™ helps create urban green spaces in partnership with the Alliance for Community Trees and is a platinum sponsor of their program, National NeighborWoods™ Month.
Just as Boise® ASPEN® Recycled Paper creates something new and useful out of discarded paper, Project UP™ reflects a similar balance between paper, the environment, and our neighborhoods.

Urban parks are good for business. According to a 2002 study by the University of Georgia, consumers are willing to spend more than 10% more for goods and services when shopping in tree-lined business districts. Perhaps that’s because merchandise looks better in the shade – consumer product testing in shopping areas with large numbers of shade trees were rated 30% higher than identical products rated in shopping areas that were barren of trees.
