Boise Inc. was formed following the Aldabra 2 Acquisition Corp. purchase of the paper and packaging assets of Boise Cascade, L.L.C., in February 2008.
Headquartered in Boise, Idaho, manufactures paper and packaging products. These include papers used for communication, such as office papers, commercial printing papers, envelopes, forms, and newsprint, as well as papers that are associated with packaging, including label and release and flexible papers used for food wrap and other applications. We also manufacture linerboard and corrugating medium, which are combined to make containerboard, the base raw material in our corrugated sheets and containers. Our entire team of approximately 4,100 employees is committed to delivering excellent value while managing our businesses to sustain environmental resources for future generations.
We operate five paper mills, five corrugated products plants, a corrugated sheet feeder, a corrugated sheet plant, two distribution facilities, and a transportation business.
Our Businesses
Boise Paper – 2010 sales: $1,458 million
- We are the third-largest North American manufacturer of uncoated freesheet paper products with annual production capacity of approximately 1.3 million short tons.
- We manufacture and sell a range of papers, including communication-based, packaging demand-driven papers, and market pulp from four of our mills located in the United States.
- Communication-based papers consist of imaging papers for the office and home, known as cut-size office papers, and printing and converting papers (including business forms, envelopes, and commercial paper products). Our premium papers include 100% recycled, high bright, and colored cut-size office papers.
- Our packaging demand-driven papers include label and release papers, flexible packaging papers, and corrugating medium.
- We focus our product mix on communication-based and packaging demand-driven papers to better align ourselves with changing end markets.
Boise Packaging – 2010 sales: $672 million
- Our mill in DeRidder, Louisiana, produces containerboard (linerboard) and newsprint. This facility has annual production capacity of 835,000 short tons and one of the largest linerboard machines in North America.
- We manufacture and sell corrugated linerboard, which is used to manufacture corrugated sheets and containers, and newsprint. Corrugated containers are used in the packaging of fresh fruit and vegetables, processed food, beverages, and other industrial and consumer products. Our five corrugated container plants in the Northwest, a sheet plant in Nevada, and a sheet feeder plant in Texas have an aggregate annual capacity of approximately 7.9 billion square feet.
- During 2010, our corrugated container and sheet feeder plants consumed (either directly or through trades with other containerboard producers) approximately 69% of our containerboard production, including the linerboard manufactured in DeRidder and the corrugating medium manufactured by our paper segment.
